Welcome to VanVleet Woodworking
Every New Years, millions of people make all kinds of resolutions and promises to themselves; I am no different. With the cliché resolutions, such as lose weight (constant struggle), out of the way, I had declared to do something that has been gnawing at me for years, and that is to start my own handcrafted, custom furniture business. So, after spending much time before New Years, and most of January, deciding if this was going to be real or not, meaning was I sure I wanted to do it, I am officially launching VanVleet Woodworking to the public!
What we do...
It is my intent that VanVleet Woodworking would be two main things. First, a place for patrons to come and purchase custom home furnishings, such as tables, desks, cutting boards, or whatever else you would like in order to transform your house into a home. I will have some items that are already built and for sale in an online store (coming soon), but I also have the contact form in which you can get in touch with me to start designing your very own piece today. Take a minute to look through the Gallery and get an idea of some of the types of things I have built in the past for other clients. If you already have something in mind, maybe a photo or a sketch, let me know and we will work together to complete your design and build your one-of-a-kind piece.
Second, I want VanVleet Woodworking to be a place of education. Through this blog, I hope to educate, anyone interested, in different aspects of woodworking that I have learned throughout the years. Hopefully, people can learn from my mistakes, not make the same mistakes, or take some bits and pieces of my processes and apply them to their own projects. I do a lot of project build-alongs so you can see how I build custom pieces; everything from selecting the wood, milling the wood, to fine tuning the joinery.
Onward and Upward...
So, it is with great excitement, and a lot of anxiety, that I start out on this venture, but I know it is what I have a passion for and I look forward to bringing that passion into each and every piece that I build for you.
Thank you, Derik VanVleet
